Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session. The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight. Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
